DoD & OCONUS Education Support

Military families often navigate frequent moves between stateside and overseas duty stations, making educational planning an important part of the PCS process. Understanding how education systems, special education supports, and school options vary across locations can help families prepare for smoother transitions and informed decision-making.

Educational opportunities for DoD-connected students may include public schools across the United States, Department of Defense Education Activity / DoWEA schools overseas, Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS), private schools, virtual learning programs, and homeschooling pathways. Because educational services, eligibility processes, and available supports are not identical across states or OCONUS installations, families may encounter differences in policies, timelines, and access to resources with each move.

This section of STRIDE brings together information and resources to support DoD families navigating education across both CONUS and OCONUS communities, including PCS planning, special education considerations, homeschooling information, and educational support options to help families better understand their choices and plan for their child’s educational needs.
